I just took my daughters to see The LEGO® Movie last weekend. All three of us thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the surprise ending (which I won’t spoil for anyone). They didn’t get most of the pop culture references that I did (especially the super-hero related ones), but still had a blast. I was really impressed with the overall message, but if nothing else, you should see it just for the experience of hearing LEGO Batman sing his edgy (and hilarious) songs. Like the best old Warner Bros. cartoons, there’s something there for the grown-ups as well as the kids.
The movie’s already grossed more than $360 million worldwide, which I think probably surprises a lot of people. I figured from the trailers, it’d either be great, or lousy. Thankfully, EVERTHING IS AWESOME (and if you haven’t seen it yet, once you do, you’ll understand that reference, and like me, probably have it running through your head for a week afterward).
BrickJournal #28 is at the printer now, and ships March 26, with a big feature behind the bricks of The LEGO Movie. If you’d like a sneak peek, check out the free preview HERE.
